About this artwork
"The Sandcastle" is a contemporary figurative work that explores absorption, companionship, and the tender futility of building something the tide will take, through a palette of pale sand, turquoise, and open sky blue. Working in acrylic on canvas, I build depth through clear, luminous color, delicate transitions, and a tactile painted surface. The horizontal format sets the three figures against a wide, uninterrupted horizon and gives the composition a spacious, sunlit calm. I use the low band of surf, the small blue bucket, and the three heads inclined toward the same point to guide the eye and set the rhythm of the work. Everything here is temporary, and no one in the picture minds.
