About this artwork
"Saturday Evening" is a contemporary still life that explores ritual, domesticity, and the tender pause between the sacred and the ordinary, through a palette of scarlet, turquoise, and cobalt blue. Working in acrylic on canvas, I build the picture in flat, saturated color and patterned surface, setting a densely flowered cloth against an unbroken field of sky. The vertical format stacks the objects upward from the table toward the flame and gives the composition a quiet, ceremonial presence. I use the braided candle, the silver cup, the spice tower and the scattered fruit to guide the eye and set the rhythm of the work. These are the objects of Havdalah, the blessing that closes Shabbat: light, wine, sweetness and fragrance, gathered on a table where a stack of art books sits among them as naturally as the lemons.
