About this artwork
No Place Like Home II" is a contemporary word painting that explores belonging, longing, and the way a sentence everyone knows can turn tender or aching depending on who is reading it, through a palette of deep navy, oxblood, olive and ochre on unbleached linen white. Working in acrylic on canvas, I paint each letter by hand through a stencil, leaving the brush marks and the drips exactly where they fall, so the surface stays visibly made rather than printed. The vertical format stacks the four words into a solid block and gives the composition the flat authority of a sign. I use the muted, earthen weight of the colours, the run of paint beneath the letters, and the narrow white channels between them to guide the eye and set the rhythm of the work. Everyone recognises the line; what changes is whether you read it as comfort or as something you have lost.
