About this artwork
"Sun" belongs to my series of word paintings, where a single word is spelled out in the objects it evokes.
I work in acrylic on canvas, laying the yellow in soft, uneven layers so the ground keeps a faint marbling and catches light across the surface.
The three letters are formed entirely of black bikinis, each one painted by hand, their triangles tipping at slightly different angles so no two repeat. Read quickly, they scatter like birds; read slowly, the joke lands.
The panoramic proportions stretch the word from edge to edge, giving it the width and calm of a horizon.
On a wall, it behaves like a source of daylight: warm, direct, and holding a wit that reveals itself on second glance.
